The Eighth Annual GF Strong Rehabilitation Centre Research Day was held on May 3, 2017 at the GF Strong Rehab Centre. It was presented in partnership by: GF Strong Rehab Centre, Rehabilitation Research Program GF Strong, UBC Division of Physical Medicine & Rehab, UBC Rehabilitation Research Laboratory GF Strong, UBC Department of Occupational Science and Occupational Therapy, UBC Department of Physical Therapy and ICORD.
Highlights of the day included both podium and poster research presentations by Students, Residents, Staff, Clinicians and Researchers. A special lunch hour keynote speaker Dr. Lara Boyd, PT, PhD, Professor Department of Physical Therapy, UBC, Canada Research Chair in Neurobiology of Motor Learning, Director Brain Behaviour Laboratory, presented on: "Biomarkers of Stroke Recovery: Can we predict outcome." We also hosted a Special presentation by Deepani Weerapura, Manager, Research Services, WorkSafeBC who presented on "Making it Work: Research and WorkSafeBC.". The day ended with a Plenary presentation by Dr. Kathleen Martin Ginis, PhD, OMC, Professor, School of Health and Exercise Sciences, UBC, Okanagan Campus, Chair & Principal Investigator, Canadian Disability Participation Project, Founder & Director, SCI Action Canada. Dr. Martin Ginis did a presentation on "Enhancing Exercise and Sport Participation among Adults with Spinal Cord Injury".
This event has grown significantly over the last few years and provides an excellent opportunity and venue to share all the great research work going on in the Centre and throughout the province. Some of the feedback from this year's event included:
